12 Oct 2009
UNSW Judo Club's own Kylie Koenig was recently awarded the Jim Robinson Trophy at the recent BBR (Black Belt Register) Annual Dinner.
The trophy, named in honour of one of the fathers of Judo in Australia, is esentially the Register's award to the athelete they consider to be the outstanding performer during the year.
Competition results, dedication to training, contributions to the sport and a person's character are some of the things taken into account when deciding upon a recipient.
In Kylie's case, this year she has won the ACT Open, QLD Open and National Championships. She also placed third in teh Auckland Open and won bronze in the Pacific Rim Championships in Taiwan.
Kylie recently represented Australia at the World Championships in Rotterdam, where she beat the USA representative in the first round, before going down to the eventual silver medalist from the Netherlands.
Her next competition will be the Oceania World Cup tournament, to be held in Samoa in November.
An asset to the club and deserved recipient of this award.
We wish Kylie lots of luck in Samoa!
